Exercise Recommendations

Regular exercise promotes a more robust system, better resilience and coping mechanisms. It can boost immunity and increase resistance to infections and pathogens.

Movement is life. When things get moving, there is reduced inflammation in the body and improved homeostasis (harmony and balance in the body’s internal systems). Oxygen, nutrients, antibodies, blood cells circulate and waste products and pathogens are eliminated more rapidly.

A recommended exercise regime is:

  • 30 – 45 min of moderately-intense aerobic activity 3 to 5 days a week
  • Resisted exercise to strengthen muscles 2 or more days a week
  • Stretching performed 5 to 7 days a week
  • Dynamic balance exercises
  • Core muscle training

Retirees participate in a yoga class in Sun city, Arizona. They participate in activities such as square dancing, ceramics, roller skating, computers, cheerleading, racquetball and yoga. There are 38,500 residents in the community with an average age 72.4 years.
