Recovery from illness Case Study

Patient in her 90s became weak and fell down due to an abdominal abscess. She had to be on antibiotics and bedrest to recover. As a result, she got weaker and stiffer by the day and needed help getting in and out of bed.
Rehab twice a week included strengthening exercises in bed, then in sitting, followed by sit to stand, balance exercises, indoor walking with a walker which progressed to outdoor walking. During the exercise, the client was given memory and mental challenges to stimulate her body and mind at the same time.
After a few weeks as her condition improved, she went from being weak, hunched over and depressed to walking 20 minutes without a break, using 1 lb. weights, standing straight and tall and most of all, feeling positive, motivated and her usual cheerful self again. These case studies shows that rehab can really turn things around after a person has had a bout of illness
