At Physio For Seniors, our team is committed to finding the root cause of your condition and developing a treatment plan that addresses your needs and helps you achieve your goals.

Preparing for your first appointment at Physio For Seniors

Before your visit, make a list of questions you would like to ask the physiotherapist during your first meeting.

You will register at the front desk when you arrive at our office. We will ask for your insurance information, credit card and any other paperwork you may have brought with you (i.e., referral, X-ray or MRI report, and other medical reports)

What to bring:

  • Credit card.
  • Insurance information, including your insurance card and any necessary authorization or referral forms.
  • Bring a list of current medications, allergies, and any relevant past surgeries.
  • Be prepared to talk about your medical history, previous treatments, limitations you are dealing with, and other relevant details.
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows the physiotherapist to examine and treat the affected area. For example, if you have a knee issue, consider wearing shorts.

Caregiver Support

At Physio For Seniors, we understand that the care and well-being of our older patients often extends beyond the treatment room. Many older individuals rely on dedicated caregivers, most commonly loved ones or family members, to assist them in their day-to-day lives. Caring for an older family member can be a deeply rewarding experience, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. We are committed not only to the health of our older patients but also to the well-being of their caregivers.

Our comprehensive approach encompasses both the senior’s physical health and the support system around them. We recognize the unique challenges caregivers face and the importance of providing them with the support and resources they need. Physiotherapy services can be provided to caregivers as well through Physio for Seniors services (ages 65 and older) and Physio for Life (for non-seniors).

We also provide caregivers with training and education, helping them understand the specific needs of their loved ones, preventing injuries by the use of correct body mechanics and teaching techniques to make caregiving easier and more effective. We are here to support the entire family, ensuring that both our older patients and their caregivers have the tools and knowledge they need to navigate this journey with confidence.

FAQs

Can I continue seeing a therapist even when I feel better?

At Physio For Seniors, we understand that physiotherapy is not just about treating the symptoms of your condition, but also optimizing your body for better performance and prevention of injuries. This is why we encourage our patients to occasionally come in for tune-ups even when they feel much better.

While you may feel significant improvement in your symptoms and overall function, it is important to understand that physiotherapy is a comprehensive and ongoing process. Continuing to see a physiotherapist at monthly or quarterly intervals can help you maintain your progress and prevent future recurrences.

Our expert physiotherapists will work with you to develop a personalized maintenance plan that addresses your unique needs and goals. This may include ongoing massage, exercises, stretches, or lifestyle modifications to help you maintain optimal function.

After you have finished your therapy sessions, you can continue to see our physiotherapist in several different ways, for example:

  • Your therapist will review and progress your at-home therapy program.
  • You can schedule a re-evaluation after a month to ensure your alignment is good and modify your home program as needed.
  • You can arrange to see your therapist at regular intervals (e.g. every four or six months) for a consultation to assess your progress, ensure you are not regressing, and deal with anything new that may have cropped up.

We can also arrange to meet you at your gym to work with you on determining what equipment and exercises would benefit your continued recovery.

If you have any questions or concerns about continuing physiotherapy even when you start to feel better, please do not hesitate to discuss them with our physiotherapists.

Can my physiotherapist diagnose my condition?

The definition of diagnosis means to identify or determine the cause or nature of a disease, disorder, or other medical condition. The process of diagnosis typically involves collecting information about a patient's symptoms, medical history, and physical examination results. This information is then used to form a diagnosis, which is a medical opinion or conclusion about the nature of the condition.

During your initial session at Physio For Seniors, our physiotherapist will conduct a thorough evaluation, including a detailed history and comprehensive physical examination. This assessment helps determine the severity of your injury or illness, pinpoint the source of your symptoms, and identify contributing factors.

The goal of physiotherapy is to help you find relief and/or recover from your condition. Although the diagnosis is essential to this process, it is not the main focus of a physiotherapy visit. For example, the diagnosis may point to the location of your symptoms. Still, it does not account for all the factors affecting it, nor does it account for how it is affecting the rest of your body. Our therapists look at the whole person to help you resolve all of your issues, not just the diagnosis. They will provide an educated hypothesis and explain the chain of events that have led to your symptoms. This will assist in finding a solution. The hypothesis will be evaluated and adapted over and over again depending on your response to the treatment in order to find the winning formula.

You can trust Physio For Seniors to guide you toward improved health and well-being. Our dedicated team of experts and our commitment to your personalized care will help you get the results you deserve!
